What a Wonderful Birthday...

After dating for three years, my Lovahboy has really got this whole present's thing down. Whether it be Birthday Presents, Just Because Presents, or Anniversary Presents! So being that my Birthday just passed not too long ago and I have been such a slacker I figured I would post a picture of the beautiful flowers and teddy bear that Mr. Lovahboy sent me! :)

Ain't that just too sweet! And might I add that it's never the same! Sometime's it flowers, another time it's a gift certificate to the spa, or even the complete seasons of one of my favorite shows... even if they are blackmarket... lol what do you expect from Afghanistan right?!

Either way, from thousands of miles away he melts my heart! I can't wait to have my Lovahboy home... even if it is just for 15 days!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

Man it has been a LONG while since I have done a MilSpouse Friday Fill-In! Go on over to Wife of a Sailor and join in!

1. My favorite thing that happened this week was getting a phone call on my birthday from my Hubby! He didn't think he was going to be able to call :).

2. Find a penny, pick it up and all day long you’ll have good luck!

3. Autumn is officially here and my favorite part of the season is the fact that it is sweater weather!!

4. One of the things I’d like to do before winter arrives is have pictures made with Leonidas, Hubby and I for our Christmas Cards this year!

5. I –Definitely WOULD be willing to participate in MilSpouse Secret Santa.

A busy week ahead!

We have a huge conference coming up at work this week that is going to make everything CRAZY! I have been asked to make 100 lemon cookies for an afternoon refreshment. So instead of going to bed tonight at 830ish like I was planning, I remembered this task and decided I better go ahead and make whatever I am going to have for dinner tomorrow night so that will be one less that I have to worry about. So here I am awake... waiting on my Chicken Casserole to finish baking! I also have a orthodontic appointment on Tuesday, that should be fun! More conference fun on Wednesday and then on thursday it is my BIRTHDAY! Wooooohoo... not lol. It would be special if my loverboy was here instead of in the Stan. I agreed to watch one of my very best friends awesome little boy on Saturday so I won't be going home this weekend to celebrate my birthday with my family either. That's ok though because gas is expensive and driving a jeep from NoVA to Eastern NC isn't the cheapest :). I can always get a head start on one of my upcoming paper's since I have another class starting in October that will make me even BUSIER!

I am looking forward to going into work tomorrow :)... Only because I had a FUN Friday decorating Dawn's (the very bestfriend I mentioned above) desk for her birthday while she was on leave all of last week! She has no IDEA and I don't believe that she reads my blog... hahahaha. I'll try and remember to send the pictures home from the finished product on Friday to post on my blog. We have to have a little but of fun at work every now and then!

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

OH YEAH... don't forget to check out Suzanne at All Because Two People Fell in Love. I am being featured tomorrow on her Mystery Monday! Just click on her button below!

Cakes in a Jar... Travel Afar!

My Dear Husband's birthday is this week... Another that we will spend apart. So I got to thinking about a month ago about how I could possibly make his birthday a little more enjoyable in the Sandbox. Knowing that my DH has a sweet tooth, I scoured the net looking for somthing unique and sweet to send my husband. I ran across Cakes in a Jar on a blog and knew immediately that it was perfect! I went out and bought my jars, cakes mixes, and multiple tubs of icing. I chose a yellow cake batter and a strawberry cake batter. I was a little nervouse that it wouldn't turn out right because I have never canned anything, but with following the instructions on the blog (I will post it at the bottem on this post) it was easy peasy and FUN!!

First step, wash your jars and boil the lids in a pot while the cakes are baking. Mix the cake batter as instructed on the box and fill each little jar about half way with the batter. I watch alot of the food network so I used a little trick I witnessed on a show... place the batter in a ziplock bag and cut a bottem corner off and pipe it into each little jar, less of a clean up!

Step two... bake the cakes by following the instructions in the blog link that I post at the end of this. Take the lids out of the boiling water, dry them off and put them on the jars. As the cool, you will hear the tops pop as they seal themselves. The cakes will pull away from the sides of the jar as they cool, which makes it easy for the recipient to slide the cake out of the jar to enjoy.

Now the fun part!! Decorating!! I purchased some fabric and ribbons to decorate the jars I was sending to my husband. Once the cakes and sealed themselves you are able to unscrew the ring and place fabric over the jar and screw the ring back on.

That's how I decorated my hubbie's birthday cakes. I send different flavors or tubs of icing over so he could share with his men... I didn't expect him to eat all 8 cakes by himself! Have fun decorating them ladies!! They will mean the world to the soldiers when they recieve them! My husband absolutely loved his! You don't just have to make cakes, you can also bake breads to send!

Don't forget the most important ingredient....  LOVE

The blog where I found my inspiration and directions http://awtr.blogspot.com/2007/09/cake-in-jar.html

Until next time, I'll be thinking of you all!

XOXO,
